Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows

Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows

I have a very unhealthy obsession with Makeup Geek eyeshadows. So when Marlena released eyeshadows in a new formula, of course I had to go and buy all of them. These new shadows are supposed to look like they were applied wet to the lid, creating a foiled appearance. There are ten foiled shadows available and they are extremely pigmented. The formula has a dense creamy yet powdery consistency. I found that the best way to apply them is with my finger using a light swiping motion on my lid. I would also recommend using a base like NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk or MAC Painterly Paint Pot under these shadows to prevent fading. The foiled shadows have circus themed names…

These are the five neutral shades.

Left to Right: Magic Act, In the Spotlight, Grandstand, Flame Thrower, and Mesmerized.

Magic Act is a gorgeous pale yellow gold perfect for an inner corner highlight. In the Spotlight is a beautiful light peach shade and perfect for a simple wash of color all over the lid. Grandstand, Flame Thrower, and Mesmerized are perfect for a more dramatic look in taupe, burnt orange, and gun metal grey.

The five colored shades are equally beautiful.

Makeup Geek Foiled Shadows, Makeup Geek Showtime, Makeup Geek Jester, Makeup Geek Houdini, Makeup Geek Center Stage, Makeup Geek Caitlin Rose
Left to Right: Showtime, Jester, Houdini, Center Stage, and Caitlin Rose.

Showtime is a beautiful deep burgundy/rusty brown color with gold reflects.  I have found that Jester and Houdini pair well together. The green/gold color of Jester all over the lid with Houdini’s darkened teal in the outer V area make a gorgeous green eye look. I have to say out of all the colors Center Stage and especially Caitlin Rose are the least pigmented. That’s not to say they are bad, just by comparison to the other shadows they need building up. I have found that blues and purples rarely have good formulas. All of the shadows were swatched without any primer and with one swipe of my finger except for Center Stage and Caitlin Rose. Those two shadows took a few passes of the finger to build up to full opacity.

All net profits of Caitlin Rose are donated to BDSRA an organization that funds research for Batten disease and helps families with children who have the disease. Caitlin Rose was Marlena’s friend who loved purple and died of Batten disease at a young age.

Here is a look I created using Caitlin Rose.

I used mostly Makeup Geek shadows: Peach Smoothie in my transition, Barcelona Beach in the crease, Mocha in the outer V, Caitlin Rose all over lid, and Shimma Shimma as a brow bone highlight. I also used Transition from Kat Von D’s Chrysalis palette in the inner corner.

The foiled shadows come in pan form and are easily stored in a z-palette.

Makeup Geek foiled shadows are $9.99 a pan but can be bought as a set of ten for only $89. My favorites are Grandstand, Flamethrower, Mesmerized and of course Caitlin Rose. Did any of you buy from this collection and which ones are your favorites?
